During restoration..

My plan (you MUST have a plan) was first to make the truck run and secondly clean up the body to a respecatable condition.  Mechanical restoration was primarily moderate engine rejuvination, brakes, wiring, and the fuel and exhaust systems.  All the sheetmetal was stripped of old paint and rust, repaired short of filler and painted with epoxy primer.  Epoxy primer is excellant for corrosion protection and provides a fine base for filler and surfcers.

After the completion of phase 1, I drove the vehicle to have some fun and work the bugs out.  After a few months of this, it was time to make it look better.

Phase 2 would be the disassembly of the body parts once again for preparation and paint.  First were the rear fenders; preped with a skim coat of filler to remove 60+ years of dents and dings that the hammer and dolly couldn't get, surfacer, block sanding and paint.  I finished each group of parts in this manner and stored them away in a safe place for re-assembly later.  This process is very helpful in building confidence and motivation to finish the project.  The cab was the last part off the chassis.  When it and the chassis was finished, it was time to put the freshly painted pieces back together as a finished product.
